Lucy: Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Rose?
Daryl: Nope. Tell me.
Lucy: Well, because of the Indian Removal Act, the Cherokees were forced from their land and traveled on the Trail of Tears. On their journey, the Cherokee mothers were crying because they were losing their children from diseases and starvation. Sometimes they were just never seen again. So the chiefs, the Elders, they prayed to the Great One for the mothers, for a sign to give them strength. After that, a white flower grew from the ground wherever a mother’s tear fell. The Cherokee Rose.
Daryl: How do you know all of this?
Lucy: I read. I’ll teach you how some time.
Daryl: Thanks, babe. I’m bored of picture books.
